24 Ultra90 PoE++ ports24 on the panel
Ports 1 to 24 are 10/100/1000 RJ45 in two blocks of 12, odd numbers on top and even on the bottom.
Each port supports 802.3af (15.4 W), 802.3at (30 W) and 802.3bt at 60, 75 or 90 W, for PTZ cameras, displays and other high-draw AV gear.
2 extra gigabit RJ45 ports2 on the panel
Ports 25 and 26 are stacked to the right of the PoE blocks. They are 10/100/1000 RJ45 without PoE, useful for a control processor, a second switch or an internet link.
4 SFP uplinks4 on the panel
Ports 27 to 30 are 1000BASE-X SFP cages in two stacked pairs, for 1G fiber or copper SFP links.
Out-of-band management port1 on the panel
The RJ45 marked OOB, on the far left of the rear panel. It is a 1G service port for a separate management network, so you can reach the switch even if the AV VLANs are down.
RJ45 serial console1 on the panel
The RJ45 marked CONSOLE is an RS232 straight-through serial console for local command line access.
USB-C console1 on the panel
The USB-C port next to it is a second console option, handy for a laptop with no serial adapter. The USB-A storage port and a USB-C LED extension port are on the front display panel.
2 power inlets2 on the panel
Two internal, fixed power supplies with their own C14 inlets and a single on/off switch. Feed them from different circuits so one can carry the switch if the other drops.
Lights and buttons
- Status lights: Power, Fan and PoE LEDs sit at the far left of the rear panel, next to a recessed Reset button. The front display panel shows status too.
- Port numbers are printed above and below each port, so the rear matches the port list in the AV and IT web interfaces.
M4250-26G4F-PoE++ power supplies and PoE budget
| Power supplies in use | PoE budget | Max draw at full PoE |
|---|---|---|
| One | 720 W | About 889 W |
| Two | 1,440 W | About 1,734 W |
The two supplies work as RPS/EPS: with both connected you get the full 1,440 W, and if one fails the other keeps the switch running on the smaller budget. Eight devices at the full 90 W already use 720 W, so plan on both supplies for a dense 802.3bt build.
This model has no fan-off mode. Quiet mode (about 28 dBA) holds up to roughly 280 W of PoE load; above that it runs in Cool mode, about 69 dBA at full load.

M4250 AV profiles and the AV web interface
Every M4250 ships pre-configured for audio and video over IP, so encoders and decoders can be plugged in and work without setup. IGMP Plus is on by default on VLAN 1, which keeps multicast video from flooding the network.
- AV web interface: browse to the switch's IP address on port 8080 for the AV-specific settings. The regular IT web interface and a CLI are there too.
- Audio profiles: Dante, Q-SYS, AES67 and AVB are built in.
- Video profiles: NVX, AMX, Q-SYS, NDI, Kramer KDS, Aurora Multimedia, ZeeVee, Atlona, Dante, SDVoE and more, plus mixed audio, video and control profiles. Profiles are color coded and applied per port.
- Switch-to-switch links: with Auto-Trunk and Auto-LAG, two M4250s connected together trunk their VLANs and bundle multiple links automatically.
- Fleet management: the NETGEAR Engage controller manages M4250, M4300, M4350 and M4500 switches together.
M4250 management ports
All M4250 models share the same set of management ports, though where they sit (front or back) depends on the model.
- Console: an RJ45 RS232 straight-through serial port and a USB-C console port, for local CLI access.
- Out-of-band Ethernet: a 1G service port for a separate management network.
- USB-A storage: for logs, packet captures, configuration files and firmware images.
- Dual firmware: two firmware images and two configuration files, so updates cause minimal downtime.
Mounting and fan modes
- Rackmount models can be mounted reversed when you want the ports facing the front of the rack. A second, included pair of ears sets the switch back 2 in. (about 5 cm) to leave room for cables.
- Threaded holes underneath (4 x M5 on a 50 x 100 mm VESA pattern) and on the front (1 x M10 for clamps) allow mounting outside a rack.
- Desktop models are meant for conference rooms, mobile studios, under a table or behind a screen, and mount with side flanges.
- Fans are software controlled. Most models can switch the fans off entirely when the room temperature and PoE load are low enough, and offer Quiet and Cool modes otherwise. The M4250-9G1F-PoE+ is fanless.
Fan-off mode depends on ambient temperature and PoE load. Check your model's limits before closing it inside a cabinet or ceiling space.
