8 Ultra90 PoE++ ports8 on the panel
Ports 1 to 8 are gigabit RJ45 ports that can each deliver up to 90 W (802.3bt), for AV endpoints and other devices that need more than PoE+.
They also power older 802.3af (15.4 W) and 802.3at (30 W) devices, and the 60 W and 75 W 802.3bt classes.
2 gigabit ports without PoE2 on the panel
Ports 9 and 10 are standard 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports with no power. Use them for a control system, a laptop or a copper link to another switch.
2 SFP+ uplinks2 on the panel
Ports 11 and 12 take 1G SFP or 10G SFP+ modules. 10G uplinks give room for video traffic between switches; NETGEAR lists AXM761 (SR multimode), AXM762 (LR single mode) and AXM765 (10GBASE-T copper) modules for these cages.
Out-of-band management port1 on the panel
The RJ45 port labeled OOB is a 1G service port. Patch it to a separate management network so you can reach the switch even when the AV VLANs are busy or misconfigured.
RJ45 serial console1 on the panel
The CONSOLE port is an RS232 serial connection on an RJ45 jack, wired straight-through, for local CLI access with a standard console cable.
USB-C ports2 on the panel
There are two USB-C ports. The one on the back, next to the console jack, is a second console port for a laptop. The one on the front display panel is labeled LED Ext.
USB-A storage port1 on the panel
The front USB-A port takes a flash drive for configuration backups, firmware images, logs and packet captures.
Power inlet1 on the panel
One internal power supply with a C14 inlet and an on/off switch, at the far end of the back panel. It takes a standard C13 mains cord.
Lights and buttons
- Status LEDs: power and fan LEDs plus a PoE Max LED sit at the left of the back panel, with a recessed reset button below them, and are repeated on the front display panel.
- Port LEDs: the front display panel mirrors a link light for every port, so you can check the switch from the front of the rack while the cabling stays at the back.
- Clamp hole: the round threaded hole in the middle of the front panel is the M10 mount for clamps.
M4250-10G2XF-PoE++ PoE budget and fan noise
The 720 W budget is shared by the eight PoE++ ports, so all eight can run at the full 90 W at once. The switch also supports PoE schedules, so endpoints can be powered off overnight.
| PoE load at 25 C | Fan mode | Noise |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 45 W | Fan off (fanless) | 0 dBA |
| 0 to 250 W | Quiet | 34.6 dBA |
| 250 to 380 W | Quiet | 40 dBA |
| 380 to 500 W | Quiet | 44.2 dBA |
| 500 to 720 W | Quiet | 47.2 dBA |
| Any | Cool (fans at 100%) | 66.2 dBA |
Fan-off mode only holds while the PoE load stays at or under about 45 W, so plan on Quiet mode for most real PoE++ installs.

M4250 AV profiles and the AV web interface
Every M4250 ships pre-configured for audio and video over IP, so encoders and decoders can be plugged in and work without setup. IGMP Plus is on by default on VLAN 1, which keeps multicast video from flooding the network.
- AV web interface: browse to the switch's IP address on port 8080 for the AV-specific settings. The regular IT web interface and a CLI are there too.
- Audio profiles: Dante, Q-SYS, AES67 and AVB are built in.
- Video profiles: NVX, AMX, Q-SYS, NDI, Kramer KDS, Aurora Multimedia, ZeeVee, Atlona, Dante, SDVoE and more, plus mixed audio, video and control profiles. Profiles are color coded and applied per port.
- Switch-to-switch links: with Auto-Trunk and Auto-LAG, two M4250s connected together trunk their VLANs and bundle multiple links automatically.
- Fleet management: the NETGEAR Engage controller manages M4250, M4300, M4350 and M4500 switches together.
M4250 management ports
All M4250 models share the same set of management ports, though where they sit (front or back) depends on the model.
- Console: an RJ45 RS232 straight-through serial port and a USB-C console port, for local CLI access.
- Out-of-band Ethernet: a 1G service port for a separate management network.
- USB-A storage: for logs, packet captures, configuration files and firmware images.
- Dual firmware: two firmware images and two configuration files, so updates cause minimal downtime.
Mounting and fan modes
- Rackmount models can be mounted reversed when you want the ports facing the front of the rack. A second, included pair of ears sets the switch back 2 in. (about 5 cm) to leave room for cables.
- Threaded holes underneath (4 x M5 on a 50 x 100 mm VESA pattern) and on the front (1 x M10 for clamps) allow mounting outside a rack.
- Desktop models are meant for conference rooms, mobile studios, under a table or behind a screen, and mount with side flanges.
- Fans are software controlled. Most models can switch the fans off entirely when the room temperature and PoE load are low enough, and offer Quiet and Cool modes otherwise. The M4250-9G1F-PoE+ is fanless.
Fan-off mode depends on ambient temperature and PoE load. Check your model's limits before closing it inside a cabinet or ceiling space.
