Every connector on the EA-RSP-8D-100, explained
Click a card to light up those connectors on the panel above.
RCA inputs and loop outs16 on the panel
4 stereo RCA source inputs (IN1 to IN4), each with a fixed-level loop out (OUT) beside it to feed another amp. Any source can go to any zone. Loop outs keep passing audio in standby or with the amp off.
Subwoofer outs4 on the panel
One mono sub out per zone, left and right summed with a fixed 200 Hz low-pass. DSP presets don't change it.
Speaker outputs4 on the panel
One removable 4-pole Phoenix plug per zone (Output 1 to 4), wired L+, L-, R-, R+ as printed under the plug. For a bridged zone use L+ and R- (marked + BRIDGE -).
IR in and out2 on the panel
3.5 mm IR IN for an IR receiver or control system (38 kHz), and IR OUT to loop IR to more gear. The IR STATUS light flashes when IR arrives.
Trigger in and out2 on the panel
3.5 mm TRIG IN accepts 4.5 to 12 V DC to switch the amp on; TRIG OUT sends 12 V DC to the next amp.
Network1 on the panel
RJ45, 10/100 Ethernet, for the browser interface and OvrC. It stays active in standby.
Power inlet1 on the panel
IEC inlet for the supplied cord, next to the rocker power switch and fuse. After you switch it on, the amp starts in standby; press the front button to wake it.
Port positions. Episode's installation guide draws the back of the 16-channel model; this panel places the EA-RSP-8D-100's inputs, sub outs and speaker outputs in the same positions.
EA-RSP-8D-100 front panel
- Light bar on the left: blue while the amp is on or in standby, off when power is off.
- 8 status LEDs, one per channel: blue when working, red for a fault such as a shorted speaker output, off when that channel is off.
- Power button on the right: press for on or standby, hold about six seconds for deep standby.
Compare the Episode Response Series
One installation manual covers four Response Series DSP amps. The 2D-200 is a compact two-channel amp; the 8D, 12D and 16D share a 2U chassis and add zones, matrix switching and fans.
| Model | Size | Zones (channels) | Power, all channels at 8 ohms | Bridged at 8 ohms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EA-RSP-2D-200 | 1U, 8.3 in. wide | 1 (2) | 2 x 100 W | 1 x 400 W |
| EA-RSP-8D-100 | 2U rack | 4 (8) | 8 x 50 W | 4 x 200 W |
| EA-RSP-12D-100 (Response DSP 12) | 2U rack | 6 (12) | 12 x 50 W | 6 x 170 W |
| EA-RSP-16D-100 | 2U rack | 8 (16) | 16 x 50 W | 8 x 160 W |
Response Series setup in the browser
- Connect the amp's NETWORK port to your network with a Cat5e or Cat6 cable, then power it on.
- Find the IP address your router gave it and type it into a browser on the same network.
- Log in with user name episode and password episode. You must change the password the first time.
- Set each zone's output volume, pick its source, and choose a DSP preset.
- Default user name
- episode
- Default password
- episode (change on first login)
- Network
- 10/100 Ethernet, DHCP by default
- Remote management
- OvrC
Response Series DSP features
Every output has its own DSP: a 10-band parametric EQ, tone controls, high-pass and low-pass filters, delay and a limiter. Presets cover music genres, custom settings and Episode speaker models, and you can edit any preset from the browser.
- Input gain per source, with optional anti-clipping, so levels stay even when you switch sources.
- Matrix switching on the 8D, 12D and 16D sends any source to any zone.
- Stereo or mono per speaker output.
Bridging a Response Series zone
- Power off the amp and pull the zone's speaker plug.
- Wire the speaker's + to the left channel's + terminal and its - to the right channel's - terminal (marked + BRIDGE -).
- Turn Bridge Mode on for that zone in the browser interface.
Never join commons. The - terminals of the speaker outputs must not be connected together or to any other common.
Power control: audio sense, trigger, IR and IP
- Audio sense (on by default) wakes the amp when audio arrives and drops it to standby after 15 minutes of silence. You can set 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 3 hours. Turn it off when a control system runs the amp.
- Voltage trigger: 4.5 to 12 V DC at TRIG IN turns the amp on; while a trigger cable is connected, IP, IR, audio sense and the power button are ignored. TRIG OUT passes 12 V DC to the next amp.
- Power button: a press toggles on and standby; hold about six seconds for deep standby (under 0.5 W). It can be disabled in the browser.
- IR: IR IN takes a 38 kHz IR signal on a 3.5 mm plug and IR OUT loops it on. The IR 12V switch powers an external IR receiver; leave it off when a control system is wired directly.
Rack mounting and ventilation
The 8D, 12D and 16D fit 2U of rack space with the supplied ears, or sit on a shelf. The 2D-200 takes 1U with its ears.
Leave 1U open below the 2U models. They pull fresh air in from below and vent through fans on the sides, so keep the sides clear too. Fit the feet before setting one on top of other gear.
Reset and status lights
- RESET, quick press
- Reboot
- RESET, hold 5 s
- Network back to DHCP
- RESET, hold 10 s or more
- Factory defaults
- Front light bar blue
- On or in standby
- Zone LED blue
- Channel working
- Zone LED red

Frequently asked questions
How many zones does the Episode EA-RSP-8D-100 have?+
4 stereo zones (8 channels). Any of its 4 source inputs can be sent to any zone.
How much power does the EA-RSP-8D-100 draw?+
Up to 800 W. It runs on 100 to 120 V or 200 to 240 V AC.
What is the default login for an Episode Response Series amp?+
Open the amp's IP address in a browser and log in with user name episode and password episode. You have to change the password the first time.
How do I reset an Episode Response amp to factory defaults?+
Hold the recessed RESET button on the back for 10 seconds or more. Holding it for 5 seconds only resets the network to DHCP, and a quick press reboots.
Why won't my Episode Response amp turn on from the power button?+
If a trigger cable is in TRIG IN, only the trigger voltage controls power. The front button can also be disabled in the browser interface.
How much space does an Episode Response amp need in a rack?+
The 8D, 12D and 16D take 2U and need 1U of open space below for air intake, with the sides kept clear. The 2D-200 takes 1U.
