Every connector on the EA-DYN-2D-200, explained

Click a card to light up those connectors on the panel above.

Analog input and loop out4 on the panel

The IN pair takes a stereo line-level source. The OUT pair loops that signal on to another amp.

Sub out1 on the panel

A mono low-level output crossed over at 200 Hz, for a powered sub in a 2.1 setup.

Speaker output1 on the panel

One removable 4-pole plug for the left and right speakers, wired as printed on the panel.

Optical in and loop out2 on the panel

Takes a digital stereo source; the out passes it to the next amp. Pick line or optical with the input switch.

12V trigger in and out2 on the panel

With Power Mode set to 12V, the amp turns on while 12 V DC is present at the input, and passes the trigger on.

Power inlet, fuse and master switch1 on the panel

IEC inlet for the included cord, next to the T6.3AH 250V fuse and master power switch. 100 to 240 V, 68 W.

The top right has the input switch (Line or Optical), the Power Mode switch, a clip LED, and a level control beside the trigger jacks.

Compare the Episode Dynamic Series

One installation manual covers four Dynamic Series amps. The 2D-200 is a compact two-channel amp; the 8D, 12D and 16D share a 2U chassis and add zones, global inputs and bridging.

Dynamic Series power modes: on, audio sensing and 12V trigger

The Power Mode switch on the back decides what turns the amp on. The master power switch next to the inlet must be on for any mode to work.

ON
The front power button turns the amp on and off
AUDIO
Turns on when it detects audio, and off after 15 minutes of silence
12V
Turns on while 12 V DC is present at the trigger input

Front button not working? In AUDIO or 12V mode the front power button does nothing. Set the switch to ON to use it.

The 12V trigger is passed on to the trigger out jack, so one trigger from a processor or source can switch on a chain of amps.

Global inputs, local inputs and loop outs

Each zone can play its own source from its local Line In jacks, or share a source from the global inputs. Use the zone's input switch to pick where its audio comes from.

  • Local Line In: a dedicated stereo source for that zone.
  • Global optical: one 2-channel digital source available to every zone.
  • Global analog (A and B on the 8D, 12D and 16D): stereo sources any zone can select.
  • Loop outs (optical and analog): pass the same source on to more amps.

Each zone also has a level control to balance volume between rooms or cap how loud a zone can play. Set it so the zone does not clip or distort at the source's maximum volume.

Bridging a zone on the EA-DYN-8D, 12D and 16D

Bridging combines a zone's two channels into one mono output of 200 W at 8 ohms.

  1. Turn the amp off.
  2. Set the zone's bridge switch to BRIDGE (SE is normal stereo).
  3. Feed the zone's left RCA input (marked Bridge). For a stereo source, use a summing cable.
  4. Wire the speaker to the zone's R+ and L- terminals.

Keep bridged loads at 8 ohms or more. Do not bridge into 4 ohm speakers.

Adding a subwoofer

Every zone has a mono Sub Out RCA. It carries the zone's source summed to mono and crossed over at 200 Hz. Run it to a powered subwoofer or a sub amp, and fine-tune the crossover on the sub.

Speaker wiring

  • Use 14 to 18 gauge stranded two-conductor speaker wire. The removable plugs take up to 14 gauge.
  • Separate the two conductors by at least 2 in. and strip 1/4 in. of insulation.
  • Keep polarity consistent: + to + and - to - at both ends.
  • Make every connection with the master power switch off, and plug in the power cord last.

To check polarity, set the source to mono and listen from the seat. If bass is thin and vocals are not centered, swap the wires on one speaker and listen again.

Rack mounting and ventilation

  • Rack ears come in the box. Remove the feet for a clean rack install.
  • The cooling vents are on both sides: keep them clear, and leave 3 in. of space on each side when not in a rack.
  • Do not stack equipment on top of the amp; the chassis and ears only carry the amp.
  • In closed cabinets or wall racks, add ventilation so outside air reaches the amp.
  • Do not place it on carpet or near heat.

Dynamic Series troubleshooting

  • No audio anywhere: check power, the source cable and the input switches.
  • One zone silent: check its input switch, bridge switch and speaker wiring.
  • Hum or buzz: with the amp off, unplug the RCA inputs one at a time to find the cable.
  • Will not turn on: make sure the rear master switch is up (on), the front light bar is lit blue, and 12 V is present if you use the trigger.
  • Protection: each zone is protected on its own. A shorted zone shuts down while the others keep playing; the bi-color LEDs show its state.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Episode EA-DYN-2D-200 be bridged?+

No. Bridging is only on the 8D, 12D and 16D models.

How much power does the EA-DYN-2D-200 have?+

100 W RMS per channel at 8 ohms, or 200 W at 4 ohms.

How do I bridge an Episode Dynamic Series amp?+

On the 8D, 12D and 16D, set the zone's bridge switch to BRIDGE, feed its left input and wire the speaker to R+ and L-. Keep the load at 8 ohms or more.

Why does the front power button not work on my Episode amp?+

The Power Mode switch on the back is set to AUDIO or 12V. Set it to ON to use the front button.

What crossover does the Episode sub out use?+

The Sub Out is a mono sum of the zone's source, crossed over at 200 Hz. Adjust the final crossover on the subwoofer.

How long does audio sensing wait before turning off?+

In AUDIO mode the amp turns off after 15 minutes with no signal.
