DaMatrix featuresBuild, wire and troubleshoot racks with AI
Describe a rack to the AI you already use and DaMatrix places the real devices and draws every cable. Change it later without starting over, or ask the AI to trace a signal through the rack you have.

DaMatrix has three AI tools in the File menu: Build with AI, Import from AI and Ask AI about this Rack. They work with the chatbot you already use, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. DaMatrix writes the prompt, you paste it into your AI, and you paste the answer back. Your project never leaves your computer unless you copy it yourself.
The AI never draws freehand. It can only use devices and ports that exist in the real device libraries, and DaMatrix checks every one before anything lands in your rack.
Build a rack with AI
Choose File, then Build with AI. Describe what the rack should do the way you would explain it to an installer, set the rack height, and tick the brands you want to use. The list has the free device libraries from damatrix.app plus the rack and field devices built into DaMatrix. You do not need any of them installed yet.
Click Copy prompt and paste it into your AI. The prompt carries the exact devices and ports of the brands you picked, so the AI does not need to browse the web. It answers with a plan: which device goes in which U, and which port connects to which.
- Be specific about the gear and the signal flow: "Interface in U3, 8 channel preamp under it, both through the top patchbay."
- Mention VLANs, cable colours or lengths if you want them on the cables.
- Field devices such as mics, speakers and wall plates are placed outside the rack.
Import the plan
Copy the AI's whole reply, choose File, then Import from AI (or the second tab), paste it and click Check plan. DaMatrix lists every device it will place, every cable it will draw, and anything it will skip and why, such as a port that does not exist on that device.
Click Build. If the rack uses a library you do not have, DaMatrix offers to install it for free; anything already in your library is kept as it is. The devices are placed at the U the AI chose and PortView opens and draws the cables, port to port, with a report of anything it could not connect.
If the AI suggested monitoring for a server, the LiveView recipe is attached with polling switched off, so you can review it before anything connects to your equipment. Passwords are never part of a plan.
Change it without starting over
DaMatrix remembers the AI form for each rack: your request, the brands you picked and the reply you pasted. Close the dialog and come back any time.
Once an AI build is in the rack, Build with AI offers Change my last AI build. Type only what should change, for example "move the interface to U3 and add a second compressor". The new prompt gives the AI the rack as it is now, including anything you moved or deleted by hand, and asks it to change only what you asked for.
When you import the new answer, Replace my last AI build removes the devices from the previous AI build, with their cables, and places the new plan. Devices you added yourself stay. Untick it to add the new plan next to the old one instead.
Ask AI about your rack
Sometimes the rack is already built and patched, and the question is how it works. Choose File, then Ask AI about this Rack, type your question and click Copy for AI.
DaMatrix copies the routing of the project you have open as plain text: every device with its U, make, model and notes, every port with the cable on it, the free ports grouped by connector type, your field devices, and every cable with its signal, colour and description. That includes the cables you drew by hand in PortView. No images are included, so a project file of several megabytes becomes a few dozen kilobytes of text that any chatbot can read.
For a very large project, click Save as file and attach the text file to your chat instead of pasting it.
Want the AI to make the fix? Leave Let the AI add cables ticked. The AI ends its answer with a short list of cables to add, using the exact ports in your rack. Paste its answer into Import from AI and DaMatrix checks every cable against the rack as it is now: a port that already has a cable, or a port that does not exist, is listed and skipped. Click Add and PortView draws the rest. Nothing else in the rack is moved or removed.
- "Where do I plug in my vocal mic so it goes through the preamp and the patchbay into input 1 of the interface?"
- "Why is there no signal on the left monitor? Trace it from the interface outputs."
- "Which switch ports are free on VLAN 20?"
Good to know
- The AI can only use devices and port names from the libraries you picked. Anything else is listed as skipped, never placed.
- Names the AI gives a single device show in the preview but are not applied, because a device name is shared by every copy of that model in the project.
- Cables you drew by hand are not sent with Change my last AI build, and they are removed with their device if you replace that build.
- Missing a brand? Tell us at [email protected] and we will work with our community to add it to the device library.
