Every port on the USW-Pro-Max-16, explained

Click a card to light up those ports on the panels above.

16 RJ45 ports16 on the panel

Ports 1 to 12 are gigabit RJ45 ports. Ports 13 to 16, at the right end of the block, run at 1 or 2.5 GbE. Put Wi-Fi 6 or 7 access points, NAS units and fast workstations on 13 to 16.

None of the ports supply PoE, so access points and cameras need their own injector or a PoE switch.

2 x 10G SFP+ ports2 on the panel

Ports 17 and 18 are 10G SFP+ cages, for the uplink to your gateway or core switch, or a fast link to a server. Use an SFP+ module or a DAC cable.

USB-C power input1 on the panel

Power comes in through the USB-C port on the back. The switch ships with a 5 V, 25 W USB-C adapter and draws up to 25 W.

Etherlighting. All 16 RJ45 ports light up to show port location, link speed and the native VLAN. Pair it with UniFi Etherlighting patch cables for the brightest effect.

What else is on the front

  • Touchscreen (1.3 in.) on the left end, with AR switch management through the UniFi app.
  • Factory reset button at the far right, below the SFP+ cages.

Where it fits in a rack

At 325.1 mm (12.8 in.) wide and 160 mm (6.3 in.) deep, the Pro Max 16 is narrower than a 19 in. rack. It is 1U high, so it sits on a rack shelf or a desk, or mounts in a 1U space with a rack mount kit. It is fanless, so it runs silent in a studio or office and needs no front-to-back airflow.

Plan the power. The USB-C adapter needs an outlet or power strip near the back of the switch. Leave room for the cable when you place it on a shelf.

Switching features

  • Layer 2: VLANs, voice VLAN, STP and RSTP, LACP link aggregation, port mirroring, port isolation, storm control, IGMP snooping, 802.1X, jumbo frames, loop protection, DHCP snooping and LLDP-MED.
  • Layer 3: inter-VLAN routing on the switch, static routes between local networks, DHCP server and DHCP relay, and network isolation with ACLs.

Frequently asked questions

Does the USW-Pro-Max-16 have PoE?+

No. None of its ports supply PoE. Power access points and cameras with an injector or a PoE switch.

Which ports on the Pro Max 16 are 2.5G?+

Ports 13 to 16, the last four RJ45 ports on the right. Ports 1 to 12 are gigabit.

How is the USW-Pro-Max-16 powered?+

Through the USB-C port on the back, with the included 5 V, 25 W adapter. It draws up to 25 W.

Is the Pro Max 16 rack mountable?+

It is 1U high but only 325.1 mm wide, so it needs a rack shelf or a 1U rack mount kit to sit in a 19 in. rack.

Is the USW-Pro-Max-16 a Layer 3 switch?+

Yes. It routes between VLANs on the switch, supports static routes between local networks and can run DHCP for locally managed networks.

Is the Pro Max 16 fanless?+

Yes. It is cooled without fans, so it is silent.

Plan this switch in your rack
