Ubiquiti Enterprise Fortress Gateway (EFG): ports, power and setup guide
The EFG is a 1U UniFi gateway with two RJ45 ports and four SFP cages on the front, and two power supplies on the back. You can bring the internet in at 25G over SFP28 or at 2.5G over RJ45. Click any port on the panels below to see what it does.
- 1U rack mount
- 25G SFP28 WAN
- 2.5G RJ45 WAN
- 4 SFP cages
- 2 RJ45
- Dual power supplies

Every port on the EFG, explained
Click a card to light up those ports on the panels above.
2.5G RJ45 WAN1 on the panel
The top RJ45 port is the 2.5G WAN, for a copper modem or ISP handoff.
RJ45 LAN1 on the panel
The bottom RJ45 port is a LAN port for a copper connection to your network.
4 SFP cages4 on the panel
The top right cage is the 25G SFP28 WAN, for a fiber or high-speed handoff. The other three cages connect to your network, usually fiber uplinks to the core or aggregation switches.
2 power supplies2 on the panel
Two AC power supplies sit on the back. Connect both, ideally to separate circuits, so the gateway stays up if one feed or supply fails.
Pick one WAN. The guide shows two ways to connect the internet: option A uses the 25G SFP28 WAN, option B uses the 2.5G RJ45 WAN.
What's in the box
- EFG
- 2 rack mount brackets
- 8 M4 screws for the brackets
- 4 cage nuts and 4 10#-32 rack screws
- 2 AC power cords
- 2 tie straps and 2 cord retainers
Rack mounting the EFG
- Attach a bracket to each side with the M4 screws.
- Snap cage nuts into the rack posts.
- Set the EFG in the rack and fasten the brackets with the 10#-32 screws.
- Plug both power cords into the power supplies on the back.
Fit the power cord retainers
Each power supply has a hole next to its inlet for a tie strap. The retainer clips onto the strap and holds the plug in.
- Push a tie strap into the hole beside the power inlet.
- Slide a retainer onto the strap.
- Plug in the power cord.
- Slide the retainer up to the plug and clamp it around the plug.
To unplug a cord, open the retainer and slide it back along the strap first, then pull the plug.
First-time setup
- Connect your internet to either the 25G SFP28 WAN or the 2.5G RJ45 WAN.
- Install the UniFi app on your phone.
- Open the app near the EFG. It finds the gateway over Bluetooth and walks you through setup.
Frequently asked questions
Which port is the WAN on the EFG?+
There are two WAN options: the top right SFP cage is the 25G SFP28 WAN, and the top RJ45 port is the 2.5G WAN. Use the one that matches your internet handoff.
Does the EFG have redundant power?+
Yes. It has two AC power supplies on the back and ships with two power cords.
What are the cord retainers for?+
They clamp each power plug to a tie strap fixed to the power supply, so a cord cannot be knocked loose.
How many SFP ports does the EFG have?+
Four SFP cages on the front, one of which is the 25G SFP28 WAN.
Where is the reset button?+
It is the small pinhole at the far right of the front panel, next to the SFP cages.
How do I set up a new EFG?+
Connect the WAN and power, then open the UniFi app on your phone. The app finds the EFG over Bluetooth and guides you through setup.
Plan this gateway in your rack
The EFG is in the Ubiquiti library for DaMatrix, with every port mapped so you can drag it into a rack, patch it and print the documentation.
