Every port on the UDM-SE, explained

Click a card to light up those ports on the panels above.

8 LAN ports8 on the panel

Ports 1 to 8 are RJ45 LAN ports on the built-in switch, for access points, switches and wired devices.

2.5G RJ45 WAN1 on the panel

The single RJ45 port to the right of the LAN block is the 2.5G WAN, for a copper modem or ISP handoff.

10G SFP+ ports2 on the panel

The top SFP+ cage is the 10G WAN, for a fiber or 10G handoff. The bottom SFP+ cage is a 10G LAN port, usually the uplink to your core or aggregation switch.

Power inlet1 on the panel

The AC inlet is on the back. After you plug in the cord, slide the lock over it so it cannot be pulled out by accident.

Pick one WAN. The guide shows two ways to connect the internet: option A uses the 10G SFP+ WAN, option B uses the 2.5G RJ45 WAN.

What else is on the front

  • Touchscreen display on the left end of the panel.
  • Drive bay in the middle holds one 3.5 in. or 2.5 in. drive.
  • Reset button is the small pinhole at the bottom right, below the SFP+ cages.

What's in the box

  • UDM-SE
  • 2 rack mount brackets
  • 8 M4 screws for the brackets
  • 4 cage nuts and 4 10#-32 rack screws
  • 1 6#-32 screw (3.5 in. drive) and 4 M3 screws (2.5 in. drive)
  • AC power cord

Rack mounting the UDM-SE

  1. Attach a bracket to each side with the M4 screws.
  2. Snap cage nuts into the rack posts.
  3. Set the UDM-SE in the rack and fasten the brackets with the 10#-32 screws.

Install a hard drive

  1. Press the drive bay door on the front to release it, then pull the tray out.
  2. For a 3.5 in. drive, drop it into the tray, slide it back to seat it and lock it in with the 6#-32 screw.
  3. For a 2.5 in. drive, fasten it to the tray from below with the 4 M3 screws.
  4. Slide the tray back into the bay until it seats, then close the door.

Power and first-time setup

  1. Plug the power cord into the back of the unit, slide the cord lock over it, then plug it into an outlet.
  2. Connect your internet to either the 10G SFP+ WAN or the 2.5G RJ45 WAN.
  3. Install the UniFi Network app on your phone.
  4. Open the app near the UDM-SE. It finds the unit over Bluetooth and walks you through setup.

Frequently asked questions

Which port is the WAN on the UDM-SE?+

There are two WAN ports on the front: the single RJ45 port is the 2.5G WAN, and the top SFP+ cage is the 10G WAN. Use the one that matches your internet handoff.

How many LAN ports does the UDM-SE have?+

Eight RJ45 LAN ports, plus one 10G SFP+ LAN port for a switch uplink.

What is the difference between the UDM-SE and the UDM-Pro WAN?+

The front layout is the same, but the RJ45 WAN on the UDM-SE runs at 2.5G instead of 1G.

Where does the power cord plug in?+

On the back of the unit. The inlet has a lock that slides over the plug to hold it in place.

Can I use a 2.5 in. drive in the UDM-SE?+

Yes. The tray takes a 3.5 in. drive or a 2.5 in. drive. A 2.5 in. drive mounts to the tray with the included M3 screws.

How do I set up a new UDM-SE?+

Connect the WAN, power it on, then open the UniFi Network app on your phone. The app finds the UDM-SE over Bluetooth and guides you through setup.

Plan this gateway in your rack

The UDM-SE is in the Ubiquiti library for DaMatrix, with every port mapped so you can drag it into a rack, patch it and print the documentation.
