Every port on the UDM-Pro-Max, explained

Click a card to light up those ports on the panel above.

8 LAN ports8 on the panel

Ports 1 to 8 are gigabit RJ45 LAN ports on the built-in switch, for access points, switches, cameras and wired devices.

2.5G RJ45 WAN1 on the panel

The single RJ45 port to the right of the LAN block is the 2.5 GbE WAN, for a copper modem or ISP handoff.

10G SFP+ ports2 on the panel

There are two 10G SFP+ cages. One is a WAN port for a fiber or 10G handoff, the other is a LAN port, usually the uplink to your core or aggregation switch.

The drawing puts the WAN in the top cage and the LAN in the bottom cage, the same layout as the UDM-Pro. Check the port labels on your unit before you cable it.

Two WAN ports means failover. Connect a second internet line to the other WAN port and the UDM-Pro-Max can fail over or load balance between them.

What else is on the front

  • Touchscreen (1.3 in.) on the left end of the panel shows status and setup info.
  • Two drive bays in the middle hold hard drives for UniFi Protect recording.
  • Factory reset button at the right end, next to the SFP+ cages.

Power

Power connects on the back. There are two inputs: a universal AC inlet for the internal 100 W supply, and a 12 V DC input for a UniFi USP-RPS redundant power supply. The unit draws up to 60 W.

Plan for the RPS. If you want redundant power, leave room in the rack for a USP-RPS and run its DC cable to the back of the UDM-Pro-Max.

Rack mounting the UDM-Pro-Max

The UDM-Pro-Max is a full-width 1U unit that mounts with front rack ears. It is 285.6 mm (11.2 in.) deep, so it fits shallow network racks and wall cabinets as well as full-depth racks. Leave space behind it for the power cord and, if you use one, the RPS cable.

What it does as a gateway

  • Redundant WAN with failover and load balancing, plus LTE backup.
  • Application-aware firewall rules and signature-based IDS/IPS.
  • Content, country, domain and ad filtering.
  • VLAN and subnet traffic segmentation.
  • License-free SD-WAN, and WireGuard, L2TP and OpenVPN servers.

Frequently asked questions

Which ports are the WAN on the UDM-Pro-Max?+
